CVE-2024-22258Network attack vector

Authorization-code misuse via missing PKCE challenge validation

Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Dec 5, 2024

Improper authentication in Spring Authorization Server before 1.1.6 and 1.2.0 through 1.2.2 allows remote attackers to bypass PKCE. CodeVerifierAuthenticator accepted a token request containing a code verifier when the stored authorization request lacked a code challenge, leaving the verifier without its intended proof binding. Exploitation requires a confidential client that elects to use PKCE, a downgraded authorization flow, and user interaction; public clients are not affected.
