CVE-2024-22232Network attack vector

Authenticated arbitrary file read via path traversal

Published Jun 27, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024

Path traversal in Salt before 3005.5 and Salt 3006.0 through 3006.5 allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary master files. The roots fileserver's serve_file method opens a normalized attacker-controlled path without confirming that it remains beneath the configured file root. Access requires valid low-privileged Salt credentials and exposes files readable by the master process without altering them or interrupting service.
