CVE-2024-22228

Root command execution via svc_cifssupport injection

Published Feb 12, 2024 · Updated May 7, 2025

OS command injection in the svc_cifssupport utility in Dell Unity before 5.4 allows local users to execute commands as root. Dell identifies svc_cifssupport as the vulnerable locus but does not disclose which input reaches an operating-system command without neutralization. A low-privileged authenticated shell account is required; successful exploitation escapes the restricted shell and grants full control of the appliance.
