CVE-2024-22085

Local password-hash disclosure via world-readable shadow file

Published Mar 20, 2024 · Updated Dec 5, 2024

Incorrect file permissions in Elspec G5 1.1.4.15 and earlier allow local users to read password hashes from the shadow file. The device assigns permissions that expose /etc/shadow to every local account instead of restricting the password-hash database to privileged processes. Local users need an account on the device; the disclosed hashes support offline password cracking without enabling direct file modification or service interruption.
