CVE-2024-2208

Local privilege escalation via uncontrolled DLL search

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024

Uncontrolled DLL search in Sound Research SECOMN64 Driver allows local users to escalate privileges through a planted library. SECOMN64.exe loads a DLL by name from an uncontrolled search-path element, so a planted library executes with the process's privileges. Local low-privileged access is required, and successful loading runs attacker-controlled code with the service's elevated privileges.
