Local SYSTEM escalation via privileged API misuse
Published Feb 13, 2024 · Updated Apr 10, 2025
Incorrect use of privileged APIs in all Siemens UniCam FX versions allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges through the installer agent. The Windows installer agent invokes conhost.exe as a child process with SYSTEM privileges because it uses privileged APIs incorrectly. A low-privileged local account is required, and successful exploitation grants full control of the Windows host.
