CVE-2024-21958

Privilege escalation via inherited installation-directory permissions

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 14, 2024

Incorrect default permissions in AMD Provisioning Console before 4.0.0.408 allow local users to escalate privileges and execute code. During installation, the console inherits the parent folder's permissions instead of assigning restrictive ACLs to its installation directory, subfolders, and files. Exploitation requires a low-privileged local user and user interaction, after which attacker-controlled code executes with elevated privileges.
