CVE-2024-21937

Privilege escalation via inherited installation-directory permissions

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 14, 2024

Incorrect default permissions in affected AMD Software installers allow local users to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code. The shared installer inherits permissions from the HIP SDK parent folder and leaves the installation directory, subfolders, and files with improper ACLs. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and user interaction; successful abuse executes code with elevated privileges.
