CVE-2024-21924

SMM code execution via boot-service handler replacement

Published Feb 11, 2025 · Updated Feb 11, 2025

Improper privilege management in AMD AmdPlatformRasSspSmm firmware allows local users with ring 0 privileges to execute SMM code. The driver’s SMM callout trusts mutable boot-service handler pointers, so ring 0 code can redirect them to attacker-controlled code. Exploitation requires existing ring 0 control and yields arbitrary execution within SMM on affected processor firmware.
