Unauthenticated file access via unsanitized locale parameter
Published Aug 10, 2024 · Updated Mar 11, 2025
Path traversal in Enphase IQ Gateway 4.x through 8.2.4224 allows remote attackers to access or create arbitrary files via a URL parameter. The get_locale function in envoy.rb passes the unsanitized locale value to CacheUtils.cache_file, which joins it into a /tmp/cache path without enforcing that the result remains inside that directory. Exploitation requires network access to a cacheable /home or /production request; public exposure is nondefault, and the standalone flaw permits arbitrary device-file access or creation.
