CVE-2024-21853

Local denial of service via faulty state machines

Published Nov 13, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Improper hardware state-machine logic in some 4th and 5th Generation Intel Xeon Processors allows local users to cause denial of service. Intel identifies the faulty locus only as finite state machines in processor hardware logic and does not disclose the state transition or input that triggers the failure. A low-privileged authorized user needs local access, and the documented consequence is limited to loss of availability.
