CVE-2024-21823

Privilege escalation via accelerator error-reporting desynchronization

Published May 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 14, 2024

Hardware desynchronization in Intel DSA 1.0 and IAA 1.0 allows local users to escalate privileges or force a platform reboot. The integrated accelerators' error-reporting logic loses synchronization between control and data handling, allowing direct user access to corrupt memory. Exploitation requires direct access to DSA or IAA 1.0 integrated into affected fourth- or fifth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
