CVE-2024-21722Network attack vector

Account access persistence via stale MFA sessions

Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2024

Insufficient session expiration in Joomla! CMS allows remote attackers with a valid session cookie to retain account access after MFA changes. Joomla has not published the code locus, but the MFA management views fail to invalidate all active sessions when a user's MFA methods change. Exploitation requires an existing authenticated session and affects Joomla! CMS 3.2.0 through 3.10.14, 4.0.0 through 4.4.2, and 5.0.0 through 5.0.2; access remains bounded by that account's privileges.
