Local file disclosure via nested URL scheme
Published Dec 20, 2024 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Improper URL validation in Spatie Browsershot before 5.0.3 allows remote attackers to read local files through crafted URLs. The setUrl method denylist rejects direct file schemes but accepts the view-source:file wrapper, which headless Chrome resolves to a local resource. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled URLs into Browsershot; successful requests disclose files readable by the rendering process.
