Command execution via unsanitized clone URL
Published Oct 8, 2024 · Updated Mar 21, 2026
Argument injection in Gleb Bahmutov ggit 2.4.12 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute commands through a crafted clone URL. The cloneRepo API places the supplied URL into a git clone command without scheme validation or a double-dash end-of-options delimiter, so a URL beginning with --upload-pack is interpreted as a Git option. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled URL data to cloneRepo; injected commands run with that application process account.
