Service interruption via unchecked translation keys
Published Sep 10, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024
Prototype pollution in node-gettext 3.0.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt a Node.js service through crafted translations. addTranslations treats attacker-controlled locale and domain strings as ordinary catalog keys, so proto selects Object.prototype and the domain assignment writes an inherited prototype property. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled locale and domain values; the published assessment limits direct impact to service availability.
