Local low-privilege hypervisor takeover
Published Apr 16, 2024 · Updated Mar 13, 2025
Improper access control in Oracle VM VirtualBox Core before 7.0.16 allows local users to take over the hypervisor on Linux hosts. Oracle identifies the affected locus only as the Core component and has not published the operation that mishandles access. Exploitation requires a low-privileged account with logon access to the host; success compromises the VirtualBox security authority and its data, behavior, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
