Published May 30, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in Remote Content Shortcode 1.5 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through shortcode attributes. The remote_content_shortcode method processes user-controlled attributes and returns the generated response without mandatory escaping; HTML encoding is optional and disabled by default. Contributor-level access is required to create the shortcode, and the script runs in visitors' browsers when the affected page is viewed.
