CVE-2024-20816

Unauthenticated hotspot access via unchecked connection conditions

Published Feb 6, 2024 · Updated Nov 7, 2024

Improper authentication in Samsung Mobile Devices before SMR Feb-2024 Release 1 allows adjacent attackers to connect to Auto Hotspot. The onCharacteristicWriteRequest handler accepts an Auto Hotspot connection request without enforcing the required connection conditions. The attacker must be within adjacent wireless range, and exploitation silently grants use of the victim's mobile data connection.
