Unauthorized hotspot access via unauthenticated characteristic reads
Published Feb 6, 2024 · Updated Aug 19, 2024
Improper authentication in Auto Hotspot on Samsung Mobile Devices before SMR Feb-2024 Release 1 allows adjacent attackers to join a hotspot. The onCharacteristicReadRequest callback processes an Auto Hotspot characteristic read without enforcing the proper conditions for hotspot use. No account or user interaction is required, but the attacker must be within adjacent wireless range; the reported consequence is an unnoticed hotspot connection.
