System-level privilege escalation via modem bounds check
Published Dec 2, 2024 · Updated Dec 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds writing in MediaTek Modem NR16 and NR17 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. The modem performs an incorrect bounds check before writing, permitting data to cross the intended memory boundary, but MediaTek has not disclosed the affected routine or input. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction; successful exploitation can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
