Local privilege escalation via unchecked KeyInstall bounds
Published Nov 4, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek KeyInstall on affected chipsets running Android 12.0 through 15.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. KeyInstall omits a bounds check before writing, allowing data processed by the component to overwrite memory outside the intended buffer. Exploitation requires existing System privileges and no user interaction; MediaTek has not disclosed a narrower code locus or resulting privilege level.
