Local privilege escalation via unchecked m4u write
Published Jan 6, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek m4u on Android 12.0 through 15.0 allows local users with System privilege to escalate privileges. The m4u component omits a bounds check before writing, allowing data to be written outside its intended boundary. Exploitation requires prior System privilege and no user interaction; successful exploitation grants higher local privileges.
