Local information disclosure via unchecked decoder bounds
Published Oct 7, 2024 · Updated Oct 27, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in MediaTek vdec on Android 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to disclose memory contents. The video decoder omits a bounds check before reading a buffer, allowing the read to cross its intended boundary. Exploitation requires prior System execution privileges on a device using an affected MediaTek chipset, and no user interaction is required.
