System-privileged escalation via unchecked GNSS input
Published Jul 1, 2024 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the MediaTek GNSS service on Android 13.0 and 14.0 allows local users with System privileges to elevate access. The service inadequately validates input before writing it, allowing data to be written outside the intended buffer. Exploitation requires code already running with Android System privilege, needs no user interaction, and grants a higher local privilege level.
