CVE-2024-20009Network attack vector

Remote privilege escalation via ALAC error handling

Published Feb 5, 2024 · Updated Jun 20, 2025

Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek's ALAC decoder on chipsets running Android 12.0, 13.0, or 14.0 allows remote attackers to escalate privileges. The decoder handles an error condition incorrectly and writes beyond the intended buffer boundary while processing ALAC content. Exploitation requires user interaction but no existing execution privileges; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or malformed-input condition.
