CVE-2024-1936Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Encrypted-subject disclosure via missing current-message check

Published Mar 4, 2024 · Updated Nov 26, 2024

Information disclosure in Mozilla Thunderbird before 115.8.1 allows attackers to obtain an encrypted subject through a misdirected reply. During slow OpenPGP decryption, a missing current-message check lets the completed job write its subject into the cache entry for a different message selected meanwhile. A user must switch messages while decryption is pending and later reply to the contaminated message; existing cache contamination can persist after update.
