Service interruption via OpenAPI filename regex backtracking
Published Jun 26, 2024 · Updated Aug 29, 2024
ReDoS in GitLab CE/EE 12.0 through 16.11.4, 17.0 through 17.0.2, and 17.1.0 allows remote authenticated users to interrupt service. The OpenAPI filename expression in lib/gitlab/file_detector.rb catastrophically backtracks when GraphQL blob handling classifies a crafted repository filename. An attacker must add the filename to a project and repeatedly request its blob metadata, consuming server resources without reading or altering data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=12.0 <16.11.5
