Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Mar 13, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in the ProfilePress edit-profile shortcode through 4.15.1 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts into pages. The shortcode parser accepts user-supplied attributes and renders them into page output without adequate sanitization or escaping. Contributor-level access is sufficient, and the stored script executes when a visitor opens the injected page.
