Server code execution via unchecked extension extraction

Published Feb 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 4, 2026

Path traversal in ConnectWise ScreenConnect 23.9.7 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to write files outside extension directories. ZipDirectory.ExtractToDirectory extracts attacker-controlled archive entries without rejecting parent-directory sequences, allowing writes beyond the intended folder. Administrator access and server processing of a crafted extension are required; a web shell written into the web root executes code in the server context.
