CVE-2024-1635Network attack vector

Server crash via orphaned write-timeout tasks

Published Feb 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 4, 2026

Resource exhaustion in Red Hat Undertow 1.31.0 allows remote attackers to crash supporting servers via rapid HTTP connection closures. During an HTTP upgrade to remoting, WriteTimeoutStreamSinkConduit fails to remove its XNIO timeout task when RemotingConnection closes, retaining the conduit and connection tree. Exposure requires wildfly-http-client protocol support and a configured write timeout; repeated unauthenticated closures exhaust memory and open-file limits.
