Permission grants via custom-cursor dialog clickjacking
Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
UI redressing in Mozilla Firefox before 123, Firefox ESR before 115.8, and Thunderbird before 115.8 allows remote attackers to obtain permissions. Popup-notification handling leaves a page-defined 128-by-128 offset cursor active over browser-chrome permission dialogs, so its visible pointer can cover one button while the real hotspot selects another. Exploitation requires a user to visit crafted web content and click the disguised control; email reading in Thunderbird is not a vector because scripting is disabled there.
