Alert spoofing via stale inactive frame
Published Feb 20, 2024 · Updated Mar 28, 2025
Spoofing in Mozilla Firefox before 123, Firefox ESR before 115.8, and Thunderbird before 115.8 allows remote attackers to display false alerts. PromptParent accepted a dialog from a window whose parent was no longer current because its activity check did not validate ancestor state or the top-level back-forward cache. User interaction with attacker-controlled content is required; Thunderbird disables the necessary scripting during ordinary message reading.
