Student-to-Administrator escalation via arbitrary user meta updates
Published Mar 13, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in Kodezen LLC Academy LMS 1.9.19 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain Administrator access. The Ajax::saved_user_info function accepts arbitrary profile keys and passes each key and value to update_user_meta, allowing wp_capabilities to be overwritten. A student-level account and valid AJAX nonce are sufficient; Administrator access permits full control of the WordPress site.
