CVE-2024-1456Public exploit

Training-data substitution via abandoned S3 bucket

Published Apr 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

S3 bucket takeover in H2O.ai H2O-3 allows attackers to replace MNIST data retrieved by users running the deep-learning tutorial. The dlperf.Rmd tutorial hard-codes the unowned h2o-training bucket for its training and test CSV files without authenticating their source. Exploitation requires a user to execute the tutorial after the bucket is claimed, enabling substitution of arbitrary data processed by that user’s H2O session.
