CVE-2024-14041Network attack vector

Private-key recovery via secret-dependent decapsulation divisions

Published Jul 28, 2026 · Updated Jul 28, 2026

Observable timing discrepancies in Bouncy Castle Java 1.73 through 1.77 allow remote attackers to recover an ML-KEM private key. Poly.toMsg, Poly.compressPoly, and PolyVec.compressPolyVec divide secret-derived coefficients by KyberQ using variable-time integer division during decapsulation. Exploitation requires timing many decapsulations performed with the same long-term private key; encapsulation compression is unaffected.
