Privilege escalation via insecure MPR.dll search
Published Oct 29, 2025 · Updated Oct 29, 2025
Untrusted search path in Flexera InstallShield 2023 R1 allows local users to escalate privileges through a renamed Setup.exe on Windows. When a local administrator launches the renamed file, its launcher resolves MPR.dll from an insecure directory instead of a trusted system path. Exploitation requires local access, administrator action, and control of the DLL search location; the planted library runs in the launcher's privileged context.
