Authenticated RCE via snapshot rename path traversal
Published Aug 28, 2025 · Updated May 15, 2026
Path traversal in Nagios XI before 2024R1.3.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code through the Core Config Snapshots interface. After accepting an unrestricted file through admin/mibs.php, the snapshot rename operation passes attacker-controlled file and new_name paths to mv, relocating it beneath html/tools with a PHP extension. Access to the administrative MIB upload and snapshot controls is required, and the resulting code runs as www-data.
