CVE-2024-13941Public exploit

Process crash via unsafe ZIP month transmute

Published Apr 1, 2025 · Updated Apr 2, 2025

Memory corruption in Ouch 0.3.0 through 0.3.1 allows local users to crash the process by decompressing a crafted ZIP archive. convert_zip_date_time unsafely transmutes an attacker-controlled ZIP month value into a Month enum without validating its range, causing a read from an invalid address when the value is dereferenced. Exploitation requires local execution against the crafted archive and interrupts only the invoked process; public evidence demonstrates a segmentation fault, not code execution.
