Conditional code execution via serialized WXR metadata
Published Mar 26, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
PHP object injection in WordPress Importer 0.8.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject objects through a crafted WXR file. Four metadata import paths pass serialized term, post, and comment values from the WXR document to maybe_unserialize, which instantiates attacker-selected PHP classes. Administrator access is required, and impact depends on another installed plugin or theme supplying a usable POP chain; such a chain can delete files, read sensitive data, or execute code.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
