CVE-2024-13872

Code execution via cleartext update asset retrieval

Published Mar 12, 2025 · Updated Mar 12, 2025

Cleartext asset retrieval in Bitdefender BOX v1 1.3.11.490 through 1.3.11.505 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute code. The libboxhermes.so update path retrieves daemon assets and detection rules over HTTP after /set_temp_token triggers an update, then restarts consumers with attacker-supplied content. Unauthenticated man-in-the-middle attackers must share an adjacent network; malicious assets can yield code execution on the appliance.
