Unauthenticated code execution via client-side authorization checks
Published Mar 30, 2025 · Updated Mar 31, 2025
Improper authentication in HPE Insight Cluster Management Utility 8.2 allows remote attackers to execute commands on the management node. The Java GUI enforces administrative access only through client-side isAdmin checks, while its Java RMI backend exposes ExecuteCmdLine without equivalent server-side authorization. Network access to the CMU server on TCP port 1099 is sufficient, and successful exploitation runs commands as root with control of the managed cluster.
