Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Feb 18, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in the Simple Charts plugin for WordPress 1.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via chart attributes. The simple_chart shortcode handler places user-supplied attributes into generated page output without sufficient sanitization or context-appropriate escaping. Contributor-level access is required to store a payload, which executes in a user's browser whenever the injected page is visited.
