Privilege escalation via stale role configuration
Published Jan 9, 2025 · Updated Jan 10, 2025
Incorrect privilege assignment in Drupal Registration role before 2.0.1 allows remote authenticated users to gain unintended roles. After a code-only upgrade, stale configuration retains non-selected roles, and the registration handler assigns every retained role to new accounts. Only sites that skipped Drupal database updates and have not re-saved the configuration are exposed; new registrants can receive the Administrator role.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
