Local root code execution via writable engine libraries
Published Jan 8, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025
Incorrect default permissions in MicroWorld eScan Antivirus 7.0.32 on Linux allow local users to gain root code execution. The installer leaves bdplugins1 and bdplugins2 writable, letting an unprivileged user replace libbdnc.so before the scan engine loads it. A local account is required; the substituted library runs as root after a reboot, while deleting signature data can interrupt scanning.
