CVE-2024-1298Public exploit

System crash via S3 resume counter overflow

Published May 30, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Divide by zero in FirmwarePerformancePei in TianoCore EDK II before edk2-stable202405 allows local users to crash a system during S3 resume. FpdtStatusCodeListenerPei increments attacker-controlled AcpiS3ResumeRecord->ResumeCount from MAX_UINT32 to zero, then passes zero as the DivU64x32 divisor. Exploitation requires high-privilege physical-memory writes and activated S3 sleep; the resulting boot-time fault prevents resume and interrupts availability.
