Account takeover via unrestricted password-link shortcode
Published Mar 11, 2024 · Updated Nov 1, 2024
Improper privilege management in Formidable Registration before 2.12 allows remote authenticated users to take over WordPress accounts. The frm-set-password-link shortcode accepted an arbitrary user_id when rendered outside email actions, generating a valid password-reset URL for that account. Contributor-level access to the WordPress editor is sufficient, and disclosure of the generated URL enables takeover of the selected account.
