Unauthenticated root command execution via setup.cgi
Published Jan 10, 2025 · Updated Apr 7, 2026
Authentication bypass in NETGEAR DGN1000 before 1.1.00.48 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands as root via HTTP. The web server treats URLs containing currentsetting.htm as authenticated, while setup.cgi passes the cmd parameter for syscmd actions to the system shell without validation. No credentials or user interaction are required; successful exploitation grants root control of the router, and exploitation has been observed in the wild.
