CVE-2024-12828Network attack vector

Root command execution via autocomplete user-switch omission

Published Dec 30, 2024 · Updated Dec 30, 2024

Command injection in Webmin 2.105 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute operating-system commands as root. The get_xhr_request branch in authentic-lib.pl invokes get_autocomplete_shell on attacker-controlled autocomplete input before switch_to_remote_user_safe changes identity. A less-privileged Webmin account using Authentic Theme is sufficient, and successful injection runs commands with root privileges.
