CVE-2024-12798

Local code execution via JaninoEventEvaluator expressions

Published Dec 19, 2024 · Updated Jan 3, 2025

Expression injection in JaninoEventEvaluator in QOS.CH logback-core 0.1 through 1.3.14 and 1.4.0 through 1.5.12 allows local users to execute code. JaninoEventEvaluator compiles and evaluates Java expressions supplied by a Logback configuration file without restricting them to safe operations. Exploitation requires existing privilege to write the configuration or inject an environment variable before an application starts, granting code execution in that Java process.
